User Interface and User Experience, 2 terms that are closely related and
are crucial for product development, yet quite different so here we are
today to understand the basic difference between the two. In simple
words, UX outlines the journey of an individual using the product or
service and his/her experience with the service. Whereas, UI describes
the individual’s interaction with the service.
Imagine that you are at an
online store looking out for
clothes, the UX part makes sure
that you face zero hassles while
browsing through and choosing
different clothes. It goes more
with the human first approach
and makes sure that it is easy
for the users to navigate
through. A UX designer often
starts with extensive research and try to meet expectations of the users
by conducting face to face interviews, online surveys and questionnaires.
They build personas and try to empathetically connect with the user and
view the product from the user’s shoes. They prepare wireframes and
prototypes and pass it on to the UI Designers.
The UI part of the online store
makes it as visually appealing
as possible, it adds colours,
animations, effects and
typography. Recollect the visual
experience you had when you
scrolled through a page, swiped
past images or hovered over a
button. It decides the layout,
spacing, overall interaction and
behaviour of the application. UI
designers give look and feel to
the site thus improving its
presentation. They create mock-ups and prototypes and make it
aesthetically pleasing. The main goal is to make it as attractive,
interactive and beautiful as possible, hence communicating visually to
the user. Anyone can learn to use design software, but UI is about
understanding the journey of the user and building an interface that
gives them at most satisfaction. To conclude, if UX depicts the organs of
our body, then UI depicts cosmetics and external beauty.
